In short, there are helicopter and bus trips from Vegas or you can drive yourself, which is approximately five hours one way.

Rent a car and stay overnight. Most people choose to do one day trips from Vegas. One day bus tours are very long. Copter and plane trips are very expensive. And all of these tours give limited time at the Canyon, in some cases as little as a half hour. The Grand Canyon is one of the most beautiful places on the face of the earth. It deserves more time than one day tours will allow. That is why I believe if you really need to spend an overnight there.

Rent a vechicle and drive yourself and if you have the time book a room inside the park to stay overnight. IMO this is the best way! Call 888-297-2757 in USA or 303-297-2757 outside the USA.

Always better if you call them direct for reservations. If your trip is soon, take what they have available.
