Trip Report from Flamingo

Our first trip to Vegas and here are some of the highlights. We read this forum and learned a lot and used some of the ideas and felt we already knew some of what we would find, so thank you to the posters on here.

We booked a regular room on the Harrahs website through hot deals for 5 nights at $445 but wanted to try for a GO room upon checkin. I asked if there were any free upgrades avaialable and was told that Harrahs does not give GO room upgrades available for free, but we could have one for $25 a night with a strip view. Sounded good to us and made the total still under $600. What a nice room with a great view of Casears Palace and the front of the strip.

We signed up for players cards and made Platnium during the trip which was over 4000 points. We both played on the same card so it was easier. This allowed us to check out in the VIP room and we got a card from a host and were told to call her direct in the future to book a room. Also we had over $375 in comps so they took that right off our bill of the room and meals we charged to the room. Yes, I know we lost money and gambled there, but the people at Harrahs were so nice to us and they seemed to appreciate the business. We never had trouble getting a bottle of beer while players which helps keeping the party going.

The entire trip wasnt gambling as we walked around the strip some and visited other casinos to look them over. Watched the fountain show at Bellagio and went inside. I cant believe how stuffy it seemed. The restauarnts had dress codes and the food was wierd stuff like duck and such. Who eats that stuff? Paris was nice inside and Planet Hollywood had nice shops. Caesars Palace was big and their shops were expensive. Harrahs was kind of plain and the Venetian was too fancy for us. I guess to each his own, but we are regular people who eat basic food, drink beer and are happy with a clean room to sleep in. No massages and such for us.

Food- We ate at Ellis Island for the BBQ thanks to the posters here. Well worth it and a good meal. The wait was almost an hour, but we drank at the bar and resisted the gambling so it went quick. Their own beer was pretty good. We also ate at Battistas behind the Flamingo for our big meal out. Not bad at all and we had a few beers since we dont drink wine and the total with tip was about $75. Most of the rest of the time we ate at Flamingo buffet and cafe. We also ate at the food court at O%26#39;Sheas since they were open late when we were drunk. Cant beat a 2AM Whopper.

Overall a good trip and with the lure of free rooms in the future I am sure we will go back and we want to get downtown next time.

Again, Thanks to all of you that post on here good and bad things about places as it helped us.

Always glad to see another positive Flamingo review. :)

The great thing about Vegas is that there are attractions for every taste. I%26#39;m not a fan of duck either :) although I wouldn%26#39;t mind splurging for a steakhouse. I%26#39;ll have to check out Battista%26#39;s someday.

Thanks for sharing!

I can agree with a lot of what you%26#39;re saying. I think you would love downtown. I know you%26#39;ve accumulated a lot of points at Harrahs but you sound like you would enjoy the food, the gambling and the atmosphere of downtown.

Great suggestion, vegasvarment! They%26#39;d probably get better/faster comps downtown as well.

We are regular people too! LOL! Next time you go, try eating at Grand Lux Cafe in venetian. It wasn%26#39;t stuffy at all and the food was excellent! We also liked Mon Ami Gabi.

Thanks for taking the time to post your trip report.

I%26#39;ll be at the Flamingo in June.

Regular person here too....don%26#39;t need (or like) fancy food!

I%26#39;m glad you had a good time...stick around here and you%26#39;ll be back there again real soon!

Sounds like Vegas hooked another one. :)

Way to go on your first trip! Sounds like a real nice time. So great to read a positive trip report like this one.

Hope you will keep posting while you plan your next trip.

Great Trip Report. Sounds like you had a very good time and way to go on making Platinum in one stay. You will definitely be getting good comps in the future.

LCP...thanks for taking time to post the details from your trip, because there will be readers trying to decide where to stay and eat who can relate to your preferences. They will probably have a more enjoyable trip due to you taking time to share that info so thanks!

P.S. I am one of those who would have an enjoyable time hanging out with you :)

I eat duck almost every week from the local Thai restaurant, didn%26#39;t know that was weird, thanks for filling me in. Guess it probably wouldn%26#39;t taste as good as a Whopper after about 30 beers. I hear in Buffalo they rub some weird spicy stuff on perfectly good chicken wings and then dunk them in stinky blue cheese, that sounds pretty weird to me :)

Seriously, glad you had a good first trip and found places that suited you. To each their own.
