Los Angeles to Las Vegas at night

Hi, My husband and his friend are planning to drive from L.A. to Vegas at about 9pm end of this month. Is it safe for a first timer to travel the highway at night?

I see no reason for it to be dangerous, as long as they use common sense - stay alert while driving, trade off if one gets tired, only stop at public, well-lit places, etc.

MAN, it is dark out here. There aint no lights.

WATCH OUT %26gt;%26gt;%26gt; U almost hit that coyote.

HEY,,, Do we pick HER up or keep going.

If they are going on a Friday, there still might be alot of traffic on the road to Las Vegas. It%26#39;s a fairly strat freeway (Multible lanes each direction) all the way with some hills and a few curvey sections. Cajon pass and Mountain Pass right before you get to Nevada.

There are good radio stations as you cross the Mojave Desert that are linked together and call themselves Hiway stations. They are on the FM band. Soft rock and Country. I think there are like 7 of them. They give traffic and weather conditions every 15 minutes or so. I think I only had to change the station once because the signal got too weak. Hope they have a safe trip. Try to obey the speed limits although no one else will be. Unless they are driving faster than everyone else, tell them to stay in the right lane

I meant to say that the Freeway is fairly strait with some hilly and curvey sections.

Just how experienced a driver is your husband?? The drive is very straightforward providing the person behind the wheel has experience with 85 mph traffic all around. You will not have to dodge any small mini-bikes or pedi-cabs though.

Has links to traffic, construction and webcams for the trip.

May want to look for construction the night he is driving.

I hate to sound like a mother, but if they%26#39;re going to leave at 9 pm just make sure they didn%26#39;t drink with dinner before they got on the road. It%26#39;s freeway all the way - and I also hope it%26#39;s not a Friday night.

Thanks to all your feedbacks. they will be driving Wed night,no drinking before the trip and he used to drive in Canada although it has been years he went to the States.

It%26#39;s pretty safe. Just make sure they have a reliable car because the drive is mostly desert and you definitely don%26#39;t want to break down somewhere along the way!
