Advice - hotels

I need your advice, my girlfriends and I are treating ourselves to a much needed pampering weekend. We%26#39;ve been to Vegas before so we%26#39;re familiar with the Strip. Here%26#39;s our question - should we stay at either the Wynn or Palazzo or save 200 bucks and stay at Harrah%26#39;s? None of us have stayed at a real fancy pants hotel so for those of you who have . . . is it worth it?

It is worth staying at the fancier hotels if your aim is luxury and pampering. But sometime keeping the cash will really make a difference in having the best overall experience. If that is the case, split the difference and pick a hotel like Paris or Mirage. You%26#39;ll save a few dollars but will still have a more special experience than you will get at Harrah%26#39;s.

If your idea of ';pampering'; includes pool and spa, I wouldn%26#39;t choose Harrah%26#39;s. Palazzo would be a good choice, or Caesar%26#39;s in an Augustus or Palace Tower Room, or if you want to save money on the room, MGM Grand.

When are you going? The pool at the Palazzo is not finished. I also understand they are having some customer service problems. I would pass on Palazzo till they work out the kinks. The Wynn is great but more than 1/3 of their hotel is having air problems. So if you happen to get a room with crappy air you are out of luck.. and those big windows are a sure bet the sun will glare in and you will have a warm room. Harrahs is not bad but very different from the others you have mentioned. But for the price I would stay there. Any thoughts on Paris or Mandalay Bay? I found great rates there lately and have stayed at both and like them.

I%26#39;ve stayed almost everywhere, and I think your question about whether a fancy hotel is worth it is very interesting.

I would say it is if you%26#39;re in Hawaii or Mexico.

But even though I like high end places, I%26#39;m just as happy at a moderate place in Vegas. There, truly, you don%26#39;t spend that much time in your room.

I%26#39;d take the extra money and use it for a really nice spa treatment.

This is one of those questions that is guaranteed to get a huge variety of responses. If there was an overwhelming consensus one way or the other, then the hotels would reflect that.

I am a huge Wynn fan. The couple hundred dollars I would save by not staying there doesn%26#39;t really mean much after a few days in Vegas (between food, drinks and gambling, the tally runs up pretty quick). So for me, I think it is totally worth it to splurge and stay at Wynn (haven%26#39;t been to Palazzo yet).

LOL, just as Mqq said above, you%26#39;re gonna get a lot of different answers. We%26#39;re big Palazzo fans now after going twice. We liked the Wynn, but honestly wasnt too crazy about the rooms whereas others love them.

Not sure when KK was there, but the pools are now open, although there is a few little cosmetic things to finish, and the service was excellent on both of our trips. The casino itself is brighter and more open than most, so some people either love it or hate it. We liked the fact that it was more spread out, wide aisles, and never smelled smoke the entire time. Cocktail service was perfect the whole time.

Whichever hotel you choose will be nice, considering the choices you mentioned though.

I do like Warmwinds idea of staying somewhere else and pampering yourself with other things too. If you%26#39;re not gonna be in the room all the time, Use the money to do things you%26#39;d enjoy.

WYNN is BEAUTIFUL! Every time I walk through the hotel or play in the casino, I wish I could afford to stay!! I think if you%26#39;re going to splurge on luxury this is the time to do it, when you can split the extra cost with your girlfriends! What%26#39;s $200 divided between you and your friends...not much really in Vegas!

Let us know what you choose and if it was worth the extra money (I%26#39;m definitely sure it%26#39;ll be worth it!)!!

Only you can decide which you would prefer. But I will give you one piece of advice:

No matter what you read on the internet or see in ads, and despite anything your friends may say---in Las Vegas you almost always get EXACTLY what you pay for.

It doesn%26#39;t matter if you are talking about a price that%26#39;s high or one that%26#39;s low, you get what you pay for.

No matter what anyone says the $6.99 buffet is not as good as the one that costs $14.99. You may think it%26#39;s a better value, but you still get what you pay for.

Your stay at Wynn would be very different than one at Harrahs. But only you can decide which type of trip you prefer.

Not worth it to me, but we are all different so it%26#39;s your choice :)

ktinca, I disagree. While ';you get what you pay for'; is true often, to generalize that ignores the many deals and specials that are available. I can get a Celebrity Spa Suite at MGM for $100/night by using a promo code and upgrading at checkin, while someone else who doesn%26#39;t know any better pays $299/night. Which of us ';got what we paid for';? It%26#39;s the same room! Or, I could use a coupon to get a buffet for half-price, while the guy next to me pays full price. Same buffet, which of us ';got what we paid for';?

Finally, it%26#39;s obvious even to a first time visitor that there are many things from restaurants to shows to attractions that are overpriced and do not offer value for your money. If we both go to Spamalot and I get my tickets from the same-day discount booth while you pay top dollar ahead of time for front row seats in a small theater where you can see and hear from every seat, I have got my money%26#39;s worth, but you have overpaid.
