Vegas in August

We are taking our 85 year mother to Vegas in August. She%26#39; a ';youthful'; 85. Would like to stay on the strip. Suggestions where walking won%26#39;t be a problem? (For me, I%26#39;m 52, not Mom). Any shows to suggest? She isn%26#39;t offended by anything!

Vegas in August

You are going to be walking, walking, walking no matter where you are in Vegas! Getting to other casinos, then getting inside them and finally getting to where you are going once inside usually involves a hike!!! If you are just talking about getting from your room to the casino or strip- try Bill%26#39;s Gambling Hall and Saloon. It is a very nice basic hotel with rooms that are very comfortable, clean and safe. It has a very efficient, friendly and helpful staff. You can%26#39;t beat the location- it is very centrally located. But be prepared to do more walking than you can even imagine. You do realize it is going to be about 105 in August, right?

If you have never seen a Cirque show-I would suggest Mystere. To me it has the most WOW moments. I have seen O, Ka, Love and Mystere. Mystere continues to be my favorite. Love is also great but it isn%26#39;t a typical CDS show- the emphasis is on the Beatles music rather than the acrobats.

Ballys is great, right in a perfect spot on the strip and directly connected to the Paris indoors. Also you have access to the tram. Planet hollywood is right next door and the shuttle to the Rio is right outside of the Paris.

Cheers,

You should probably stick to center strip if walking is a concern for your mom.

Maybe consider Paris, Bellagio, or Venetian. They are all central, very nice, good ventilation, and are not spots where the crazy 20 somethings normally stay (we can%26#39;t afford it!).

I remember going with my Grandma when she was in her late 80s. She loved Vegas. We usually tried to go stick to the mega resorts where there is a ton to do, that way we%26#39;re all entertained and don%26#39;t have to venture out constantly.

85 years old and August in Vegas can be a problem. I%26#39;d stay in a really big resort so you won%26#39;t have to leave much. Depends on your budget where to stay. Bally%26#39;s and Paris are connected so you don%26#39;t have to go outside in the desert heat. It%26#39;s hot in Vegas in August. HOT.

Bellagio is nice or Caesars. Caesars is big and you%26#39;ll never have to leave their property.

One thing to consider is the use of a mobility scooter. Most major hotels have scooters for rent but call to confirm where ever you are staying.

Rent is usually $40 for a single day and $20 a day when for a 4-7 day rental period. When you check out you just leave it with their bell captain.

This is a neat trick I read about on vegasmadeeasy.com which has a section on Getting Around.

With a scooter you can stay anywhere you want. Also, walking and or scooting is sometimes the fastest way to get around when traffic backs up anyway.

If you get the small models, they can go up to 4.5mph. The big land cruisers can go up to 7 mph which means she can pull away from you unless you are spry.

Cirque shows are amazing. If you have the budget, KA and O are the best in Vegas. Mamma Mia! is more empty headed fun but quite enjoyable.

Been to Vegas once in August. HOT is not the word. It really does bring new meaning. Regardless, you all will have a great time!! Just be mindful of the time you spend outdoors, same as at home that time of year. ;-) Happy travels!

Well in August in Vegas the Temperature gets up to 118...good way to kill off the old gal...wouldn%26#39;t it be better to go in October...Ms Traci

We were there in August a few years ago.

Do stay on the Strip, but it is soooo unbearably hot and sunny outside, I%26#39;d be amazed if you were walking anywhere.

We stayed at the Luxor and got busses up and down the strip, though towards the middle might be better.

I%26#39;d go for the best deal at the most luxurious that you can; it doesn%26#39;t matter where really, in my opinion, as long as it%26#39;s on the Strip.

Quite a few of the hotels are joined by walkways so you can get through them without venturing outdoors.

It was lovely to swim into the evening, so there is one benefit to the heat.

I wouldn%26#39;t want to be in Vegas in August and I%26#39;m considerably younger than 85. I would strongly urge you to reconsider your travel dates.

I would recommend either Bally%26#39;s or Paris. They are connected so you would not have to go outside. If you are going any distance, you can always take a taxi. It does get very hot obviously, but if you plan your traveling in Vegas, it is very doable, especially since you describe your mother as a ';youthful'; 85.
