Staying at the Signature this June for 1 week. First time to Vegas. Is it possible to park at another location such as the MGM Grand to avoid using the valet service? We plan on using our car for day trips and to see as much as we can of the strip and to go downtown. Therefore, we will be taking the car out several times each day. I am thinking that valet tipping can get a little pricey. Nothing against valets but I%26#39;d rather use the money for something else. Another reason that we are renting a car is that we will be driving to the Grand Canyon. Any parking suggestions will be very much appreciated.
MGM Signature parking.
By all means use the self park facilities at MGM Grand but if you%26#39;re ';taking the car out several times each day';, that%26#39;s a LOT of walking and time wasted. It would be bad enough if you were staying at the Grand but at the Sig even worse!
Definitely worth factoring those valet tips into your trip budget to save time and effort.
MGM Signature parking.
Practically all hotels/casinos on the Strip as well as Downtown offer both valet (tips) and self park (free or with validation). Take your pick.
Or you can mix it up too, that might defray the expense a little.
Personally I found sometimes valet is convenient but other times there is long wait. Walking to the self park is not that big of a deal depending on what hotel, time of day, whether there is convention etc etc.
Thanks for the helpful answers. What amount does one usually tip a valet? Also, I understand it%26#39;s customary to tip when they bring the car to you and not when they park it. Is that correct?
Some will say that you should tip when you drop off and when you pick up. Many (including myself) only tip when picking up the car and this is generally acceptable. $2-5 depending on your generosity... :-)

I tip when I get the car back- never when I leave it off. $2-5 sounds good to me although I am leaning more towards $3 minimum for my next visit. Sometimes I self park rather than valet park because it is more convenient. I never have problems self- parking at the Mirage-especially if you use leavel 4-and I always enter from Spring Mountain.
Here is a site that will tell you about some of the parking garages on the strip. It is best to avoid the strip entrances if you can:

So Signature does not have its own self-park garage, just valet? Is it a separate valet for each tower, or do you still have to walk from a central location? If it%26#39;s right at your own tower (and even if it%26#39;s not, it%26#39;s got to be closer than the MGM self park) then $2 a pop is blessedly little considering how much walking you plan on doing out in the heat of June.
Thanks to all for your help! Nice to know that there are options.
